Intel 700 & 600 Boards now support 256 GB DDR5 Memory with the latest MSI BIOS Update.

MSI has recently released an interesting AMI BIOS update for their Intel 700 and 600 chipset mainboards. This update allows for "capacity support up to 256 GB" for DDR5 Memory. Previously, users had to go through a complicated process to enable this configuration, but MSI has now fixed the issue. No need to disable Above 4G/Resizable Bar anymore.

A hardware tipster named chi11eddog discovered this update and successfully got his Z790 Carbon MAX WIFI motherboard running on the beta version 7D89v1B1. His test platform included an Intel Core i9-14900K CPU and 256 GB (4 x 64 GB) DDR5-4800 memory. Wccftech's report suggests that it would be interesting to test the maximum speeds supported by high-capacity memory kits. However, for those who prioritize capacity over speed, the solutions are now available.

The laptop memory segment has adopted the Compression Attached Memory Module (CAMM) standard, and it is believed that manufacturers are transferring technological innovations to desktop form factors. The upcoming 64 GB DDR5 modules offer twice the capacity compared to the previous generation. In 2023, the introduction of non-binary DIMM kits with capacities ranging from 24 to 48 GB brought the total desktop memory capacities to a maximum of 192 GB.
