Framework Laptop 16 Recognized as one of TIME's Best Inventions of 2023

We are thrilled to announce that the Framework Laptop 16 has been included in TIME's Best Inventions of 2023! This marks our second product to receive this prestigious award, following the original Framework Laptop's appearance on the cover in 2021. Over the weekend, Dave2D had the opportunity to test an early DVT2 engineering sample and was pleasantly surprised by the design's refinement. It's important to note that this was a random development unit, and the final product will feature even further improvements in mechanical fit and finish.

Product Development Progress

We understand that many of you who have pre-ordered are eagerly awaiting the arrival of your Framework Laptop. We are nearing the end of the DVT2 phase, which is the final engineering stage in our product development process. Our Framework engineering and supply chain teams are currently focused on engineering validation, completing firmware development, and preparing for manufacturing. This is our most complex product to date, both in terms of design and operations, and we are dedicated to ensuring its success. Over the past few months, we have made numerous small mechanical and electrical adjustments, and in the coming weeks, we will share some highlights of these changes, as well as more detailed information about the mass production schedule.

Framework Laptop 13 Production Update

We initially experienced a slow start with the Ryzen 7040 Series for the Framework Laptop 13. However, we are pleased to announce that our production is now fully ramped up, and we are making steady progress with pre-order batches. Batch 1 has been completely shipped, Batch 2 is nearing completion, and we will begin shipping Batch 3 this week. Our current expectation is to fulfill all pre-order batches and have in-stock availability before the end of the year. This means that if you place a pre-order now, you can expect it to ship within the next two months. Additionally, we have released a Beta version of an updated BIOS and driver bundle that addresses issues we were unable to resolve before the initial launch, including improved Linux compatibility. This Beta version will soon be finalized and pre-loaded onto newly produced units starting from part of Batch 3. We are also delighted to share that the Framework Laptop 13 has received outstanding reviews, with The Verge giving it a 9/10 rating.

Introducing the 61Wh Battery for Framework Laptop 13

We are excited to announce that the higher-capacity 61Wh Battery for the Framework Laptop 13 is now available for purchase in the Framework Marketplace. Due to shipping restrictions related to lithium-ion batteries, it took us some extra time to make this battery available. It can now be ordered in all countries we ship to, except Australia, where we are still working on fulfillment logistics. Please note that while the 61Wh Battery is electrically compatible with all Framework Laptop 13 models, you will need to update your BIOS on 11th Gen and 12th Gen systems to unlock the additional capacity. The 11th Gen 3.19 BIOS update is currently available, while the 12th Gen update is currently in development.
