AMD Launches Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition Pre-Orders in China
AMD has officially opened pre-orders for its highly anticipated Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition desktop processor through its China store on JD.com. This new flagship CPU is priced at an MSRP of $899, positioning it $200 above the launch price of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Early adopters in China can secure their unit with a 100 RMB deposit, which is credited as 300 RMB towards the final payment thanks to an "early bird" pre-order incentive. The remaining balance is due on April 22, coinciding with the processor’s planned retail launch.
At launch, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition will be available both as a retail PIB (Processor in Box) package and as part of pre-built gaming desktops from leading OEMs and system integrators. Currently, pre-orders are exclusive to China, with no listings yet available in the United States or Europe. Western retailers are expected to begin accepting orders on April 22, with some, such as B&H, already providing placeholders to notify customers when the processor becomes available.
Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition: Technical Specifications and Features
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition is engineered for high-performance computing, featuring 16 cores and 32 threads built on AMD’s advanced "Zen 5" microarchitecture. A standout feature of this processor is its implementation of 3D V-Cache technology on both of its 8-core chiplets, resulting in a substantial on-package L3 cache of 192 MB and a combined L2+L3 cache of 208 MB. This dual 3D V-Cache configuration sets it apart from the standard Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which only includes 3D V-Cache on one of its two CCDs and relies on software-based OS scheduler guidance to optimize gaming workloads.
With 3D V-Cache present on both chiplets, the 9950X3D2 Dual Edition is particularly well-suited for productivity and workstation applications that benefit from large cache sizes. In contrast, the original 9950X3D remains a top choice for gaming enthusiasts due to its targeted cache optimization for gaming workloads.
Performance and Compatibility
Beyond the cache enhancements, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition shares many similarities with the 9950X3D. However, it features a slightly lower maximum boost frequency of 5.60 GHz—100 MHz less than the 9950X3D—and a higher thermal design power (TDP) of 200 W, compared to the 170 W TDP of its predecessor. These changes reflect the increased performance capabilities and power requirements of the new processor.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition is compatible with all Socket AM5 motherboards, though users should ensure their motherboard firmware is updated to the latest UEFI version to guarantee full support for the new CPU.
