Maingear Unveils Limited Edition Retro98 Desktop PCs

Maingear has introduced its latest line of pre-built desktop PCs, the Retro98 series, blending nostalgic design with cutting-edge hardware. These limited edition systems pay homage to classic 90s aesthetics while delivering top-tier performance for modern users.

Authentic Retro Design Meets Modern Engineering

The Retro98 desktops are housed in the SilverStone FLP02 chassis, featuring distinctive retro elements such as a functional turbo button—used to instantly set PWM-controlled fans to maximum speed—and a prominent red power toggle switch. The build is further enhanced by classic “ketchup and mustard” cable colors and 5.25-inch drive bay covers, evoking the look and feel of vintage PCs.

Maingear offers two versions: the Retro98, equipped with a 360 mm all-in-one (AIO) liquid cooling system, and the Retro98α, which features an open-loop liquid cooling solution developed in collaboration with Alphacool. Both models are strictly limited, with only 32 units of the Retro98 and just 6 units of the Retro98α available. Each configuration is exclusive, making these PCs highly collectible.

High-Performance Hardware Configurations

Despite their retro appearance, the Retro98 series is built with state-of-the-art components. The base configuration starts at $2,499 and includes an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K processor, 32 GB of DDR5-6400 memory, a 2 TB NVMe Gen 5 SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card. For those seeking even more power, configurations featuring the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080 are available from $3,499.

Enthusiasts can opt for higher-end builds, such as a $4,999 model with an RTX 5090 and Ryzen 7 9850X3D, or the flagship $9,799 Retro98α, which boasts an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 64 GB of RAM, a 4 TB SSD, and an RTX 5090 GPU.

Advanced Cooling and Connectivity

All Retro98 systems are engineered for optimal cooling, featuring dual 120 mm front intake fans, a single 120 mm rear exhaust, and three top-mounted 120 mm exhaust fans for the radiator. Connectivity is equally modern, with onboard Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 included as standard.

The Intel-based Retro98 models utilize the MSI Z890 Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard, while AMD configurations are built on the MSI X870E Gaming Plus WiFi platform. Power supplies are 80+ Gold-rated, ranging from 650 W to 1600 W, ensuring reliable performance across all configurations.

With its unique blend of retro styling and high-end hardware, the Maingear Retro98 series stands out as a distinctive choice for PC enthusiasts and collectors alike.
