KIOXIA Unveils Exceria G3 SSD Series: Affordable PCIe 5.0 Storage with QLC NAND

KIOXIA is set to expand its solid-state drive portfolio with the upcoming Exceria G3 SSD series, designed to deliver high-speed PCIe 5.0 performance at a more accessible price point. Leveraging advanced QLC (Quad-Level Cell) NAND technology, these M.2 2280 NVMe drives are scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will be available in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities.

Performance and Specifications

The Exceria G3 SSDs are engineered to provide impressive sequential read speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s, with the 2 TB model offering write speeds up to 9,600 MB/s. The 1 TB variant also delivers strong performance, reaching 8,900 MB/s in sequential writes. Both models utilize KIOXIA’s eighth-generation BiCS FLASH QLC memory, which enables these drives to achieve high throughput while maintaining cost efficiency.

In terms of random performance, the 2 TB Exceria G3 stands out with up to 1.6 million IOPS for random reads and 1.45 million IOPS for random writes. These figures surpass the previous Exceria Plus G4 series, highlighting the benefits of the BiCS8 architecture. The 1 TB model is also competitive, offering up to 1.3 million IOPS for random reads.

Endurance and Reliability

One of the key advancements in the Exceria G3 series is the improved endurance of QLC NAND. The 2 TB drive is rated for 1,200 TBW (terabytes written), while the 1 TB version is rated for 600 TBW. These durability ratings are on par with many modern TLC-based SSDs, addressing previous concerns about QLC longevity and making the Exceria G3 a viable upgrade for users transitioning from older SATA or PCIe 3.0 drives.
